Description

The itinerary begins at the small church of Croce, located along the ancient Via Maggiore, an ancient connection between Nuceria and Salernum. The ancient Via Maggiore, traced between the mountains to connect Nuceria and Salernum, leads to the Croce pass. Here stands the Church of Sant'Elena, the ancient parish of San Pietro, with testimonies of Armenian monks in 1699. The area, frequented by travelers and merchants along the Via Maggiore, features the panoramic villa of the senator baron Alberto De Marinis.

Following path no. 18 of the Italian Alpine Club, you cross the eastern hills of the valley, passing through Monte Caruso, the Diecimare basin, Cisterne Pagani, Arco, Croce, up to the suggestive Valle di San Liberatore.

The Costa pass, where the nets for the "pigeon game" were once strung, offers a dive into Lombard history.

Among the eastern hills, Mount Vàvano, known as "Gaudo", hosted a game owned by the Quaranta family, now reduced to a few ruins hidden in the vegetation.

The route continues through gently sloping reliefs, leading to the San Liberatore Valley.
