Description

“Around churches and villas” reveals a fascinating itinerary through the memories and evocative places of Cava de'Tirreni. The churches, artistic jewels, enrich the ancient farmhouses, while the stately residences narrate the era of a refined holiday, recalling the tourist vocation of the city.

The start takes place from the Church of Santa Maria del Quadruviale (San Pietro), and across the pleasant hill of Rotolo, you reach, passing through the small church of Maddalena, one of the most splendid villas, famous for its spectacular park, and then descend to the charming Casaburi farmhouse.

The contrast between the current degradation, marked by abandonment, and the past elegance emerges vividly, creating a setting that, despite everything, continues to fascinate. From Rotolo, you can opt to reach the village or return to the starting point along the panoramic Maddalena road.

Among the churches, Santa Maria del Quadruviale stands out, among the oldest and most architecturally interesting, founded in 1383. The church of Maddalena, built in 1721 to replace the previous one, testifies to the religious vitality of the Anna farmhouse. Villa Ricciardi, donated in 1973 to “La Nostra Famiglia”, represents one of the most beautiful nineteenth-century villas in Cava. Finally, the church of San Giovanni a Casaburi, dating back to the 12th century and recently restored, looks like a treasure hidden in the greenery.
