The City Hall of Cava de' Tirreni, symbol of 18th century baroque architecture, dominates the main square. This sumptuous municipal residence stands out for its impressive ornate façade and majestic entrance portal. Surrounded by porticoes and elegant architecture, the palace represents the historical and administrative heart of the city, testifying to its rich heritage. The sumptuousness of its forms and its central role make it an architectural icon of Cava de' Tirreni.

Description

The City Hall, overlooking Piazza Eugenio Abbro, has a history that intertwines culture and local government. Originally a theater operating from 1878 to 1946, known for performances of operettas and band concerts, it has experienced a significant transformation. In 1946, with a resolution, it became the Municipal House, undergoing extensions which included a second floor and a westward extension.

Inside the Council Chamber, a spectacular oil painting portrays Don Giovanni Camillo De Curtis, a sixteenth-century nobleman from Cave. His resemblance to Antonio de Curtis, the unforgettable Toto', is extraordinary. In 1961, when Toto learned of the portrait, he requested it from the Municipal Administration, but received a polite refusal.

It is noteworthy that the De Curtis family, originally from Li Curti, has contributed significantly to the life of Cava, with some members having served as Mayors. The City Hall, therefore, is more than a municipal building; it is a living testimony of the historical, cultural and artistic transformations of Cava de' Tirreni, a place where local history blends with the city's culture and identity.
