Description

The "Canonico Aniello Avallone" Municipal Library represents the result of the merger between two pre-existing libraries, the "Comunale" and the "Avallone". The original City Library, founded in 1871, had approximately 200 volumes of a legal nature intended for use by the City Clerk's office. The initiative to make the library more efficient and modern was promoted by the mayor Giuseppe Trara Genoino, who over the years purchased new works and accepted donations. In 1877, the library was opened to the public and found refuge in the spaces of the former monastery of the Poor Clares of S. Giovanni.

The evolution of the library continued in the 1970s with the construction of its current headquarters, allowing the recovery and cataloging of the volumes preserved in the deposits. The new name, "Canonico Aniello Avallone", is a tribute to the intellectual and literary contribution of Avallone, a prominent figure in the community. Today, the library stands out for its diverse collection of books, periodicals and multimedia resources, offering services that go beyond mere conservation, actively promoting access to culture through events, meetings and workshops. Its modern and welcoming headquarters reflects the commitment to preserving and disseminating knowledge, consolidating its fundamental role in the cultural fabric of Cava de' Tirreni.
