Description

For over 36 years, Cava de' Tirreni and Schwerte, Germany, have been united by a solid twinning. The connection began in 1981 when the mayor of Cava, Eugenio Abbro, met with Schwerte's general secretary, Herr Steinem, during a peace conference in Madrid. After the 1980 earthquake, Schwerte offered humanitarian aid, cementing the relationship.
In 1989, young people from Cava founded a Committee to promote twinning, regularly organizing initiatives. Schwerte dedicated a square to Cava, calling it "Cava dei Tirreni Platz", commemorating the event with a plaque, albeit with a small spelling error. In response, Cava dedicated a public park in Schwerte called "Villa Schwerte".
Over the years, numerous cultural, sporting and artistic initiatives have taken place, strengthening the bond between the two communities. This twinning, born in a period of difficulty, has become a lasting symbol of friendship and collaboration between Cava de' Tirreni and Schwerte.

The inauguration of these green areas represents a significant step towards improving the quality of life of citizens and promoting a sense of community.
