The Villa Comunale, originally known as "Il Boschetto", is a charming public garden dating back to the nineteenth century. Designed by Lorenzo Galanzè, it was built in parallel with the Teatro Verdi, now the City Palace, immediately after the Unification of Italy on agricultural land called La Fratta. Inaugurated in 1865, this green space recalls the style of English gardens, offering a unique atmosphere in the heart of the city.

Description

The Villa Comunale, originally known as "Il Boschetto", was expanded with the addition of the Boschetto delle Delights, enriched with rare and exotic plants from the Royal Botanical Garden of Naples. In 1890, a platform for band concerts and a coffee room were introduced, transforming the villa into a meeting point and summer tourist destination, also popular with lovers of botany. However, with the First World War, the Villa showed signs of degradation, which persisted until 2000, when a restoration was started to recover its original features. At its center stands the Cavese University Club, initially Casa del Balilla, inaugurated in 1929 by Vittorio Emanuele III. Built in the Boschetto by the local Fascio, it was financed by voluntary donations of tobacco from farmers. Hit during the bombings of 1943, the House was rebuilt and intended for young university students from Cava, becoming today the Youth Forum.

Recently, the Villa Comunale was the subject of a radical restyling and named after the judges Falcone and Borsellino. During the inauguration, mayor Marco Galdi underlined the importance of dedicating the villa to two great models of legality. The area has been reopened to the public with improvements to the paving and flora, helping to transform the heart of the city into a quality green space. The inauguration ceremony included the unveiling of a plaque in memory of judges Falcone and Borsellino and the installation of a piped music system to enrich the relaxing atmosphere of the villa.
