The museum, a unique work of its kind, was created in the rooms on the first floor of the Monumental Complex of San Giovanni (formerly Eca), representing the first of the four interventions envisaged in the broader Pics "Integrated Cultural System" project. The large exhibition rooms host acquired and donated ceramic works, including the precious collection of Linda Burkhardt and other renowned 20th century artists, coming from the centers of ancient tradition of southern Italy.

Description

The Museum of Contemporary Mediterranean Ceramics (MCCM) is financed with the P.I.C.S. Funds. OP FESR 2014/2020 Axis 10 Action 6.8.3.
The focus of the project extends from the production of objects to that of design elements, both for interiors and for urban contexts. The main objective is to promote the recognition of the identity of Mediterranean ceramics and stimulate synergy with the world of industrial design, in which the companies of the ceramic sector of Salerno, in particular of Cava de' Tirreni and Vietri Sul Mare, have a role internationally prominent.

The Municipality of Cava de' Tirreni, led by the Mayor Vincenzo Servalli and the Municipal Council, welcomed and supported the museum project. The latter aims to document and promote the history of the industrial and artisanal development of Cavese ceramics, as well as to enhance the ceramic artefacts produced by companies in the Metelli area from the Second World War onwards. Furthermore, it focuses on promoting the current creative realities of the entire ceramic sector.

The introduction by the scientific curators of the Mediterranean Ceramics Museum (MCCM), Professor Massimo Bignardi and Professor Francois Burkhardt, highlights the importance of this project in the context of preserving and promoting the region's rich ceramic tradition.
