The monumental complex of "San Pietro ad Sepim" rises in the heart of the San Pietro hamlet, in Cava de' Tirreni, constituting an architectural point of reference in the urban fabric. Including the church, the sacristy, the bell tower, the parish museum, the rectory, the Cafaro Genovesi palace (Opera Pia) and other structures, this complex represents a concentration of history and art. The church, one of the jewels of the city, develops with a Latin cross plan, three naves, a large transept and three apses, with a style that combines late Baroque and Rococo superimposed on its original Renaissance structure, still visible.

Description

The monumental complex stands in the heart of the center of the hamlet of San Pietro a Cava de' Tirreni, constituting a significant architectural reference point. Its origins date back to 1040, as attested by the first document that mentions the church, which was subject to the abbey of San Felice in Salerno. The church became a parish only in 1441, under the reign of Alfonso I of Aragon.

The sacred building has a longitudinal Latin cross plan, with three naves, a large transept and three apses. Over the centuries, styles such as late Baroque and Rococo overlap with its original Renaissance layout, creating a suggestive combination of architectural elements.

The complex is not only a place of worship but also a true treasure chest of artistic treasures. Inside, the large dimensions of the spaces combine with the regular symmetry of the composition, outlining an architectural setting of great impact. Pillars, round arches, Corinthian pilasters and an elaborate cornice characterize the structure, which also houses a parish museum. The museum, inaugurated in 2004, houses a precious collection of works of art accumulated over the centuries. The decorated wooden ceiling, the dome above the apse chapel and the monumental high altar are just some of the evidence of the historical and artistic importance of San Pietro "ad Sepim".
The façade, with its three portals, of which the central one is particularly valuable in Rococo style, presents itself as a business card of a place that has been able to combine spirituality and artistic beauty.
