The monumental complex of "San Pietro ad Sepim" stands in the heart of the San Pietro hamlet, in Cava de' Tirreni, constituting an architecturally distinctive block. It includes the church, the sacristy, the bell tower, the parish museum, the rectory, the Cafaro Genovesi palace (Opera Pia) and other appurtenant buildings. The church, one of the city's jewels, has a longitudinal Latin cross plan with three naves, a large transept and three apses, combining late Baroque and Rococo styles on an original Renaissance layout that is still visible.

Description

The church of San Pietro ad Sepim suffered significant damage during the war events of September 1943. Between 1955 and 1965, the church experienced major restorations, including the remanufacturing of the roof and floor, the redefinition of the presbytery area and the main altar, and the construction from scratch of the parish house. In 1962, the transept ceiling collapsed, and it was rebuilt in 1964 along with the new roof of the church. The marble pulpit, initially located in the central nave, was moved to the transept in 1964, but remained largely unused. Further general restorations were carried out between 1996 and 1998, with the liturgical adaptation in 2004.

The Parish Museum of San Pietro ad Sepim, next to the sacristy on the left side of the transept, is made up of two rooms, with one dedicated to the chapel of the Madonna dei Sette Dolori, later consecrated to the Sacred Heart. Characterized by a classicist style, the museum houses notable artistic collections (15th-19th centuries) from the church and donations. Inaugurated in 2004, this cultural space, curated by the architectural studio of Lorenzo Santoro and the installations of Salvatore Milano, constitutes a precious treasure chest that offers an extraordinary display of works of art collecting centuries of rich artistic tradition of the community of San Pietro ad Sepim. In addition to preserving the artistic and religious heritage, the museum becomes a place of knowledge and appreciation of the artistic expressions that have left an imprint on the history of the parish.
