Description

On Sunday 3 July, at the "Simonetta Lamberti" stadium, the piston shooting competition will take place between the Casali of the Four Districts, a crucial event for the awarding of the prestigious Palio della Vittoria and the coveted White Parchment, awarded to the Casale who will perform the best sequence of shots. During the official presentation, the mayor of Cava de' Tirreni, Vincenzo Servalli, together with the president of the Association of Trombonieri, Flag-wavers and Knights of Cava de' Tirreni, Pasquale Trezza, revealed the final organizational details of this exciting event.

The "Challenge of the Trombonieri of the Four Districts - The White Parchment" constitutes a unique occasion of its kind, celebrating the tradition of the piston firing competition, an ancient muzzle-loading weapon which still today constitutes a heritage not only of the "trombonieri" , but of the entire community of Cava de' Tirreni. Every year, this event commemorates the critical moments experienced by the people of Cava, culminating in the donation of the Blank Parchment by King Ferrante I. This historical event occurred on 4 September 1460 and the original document is still preserved at the Palazzo di Città.

The granting of subsequent privileges, starting from 22 September 1460, testifies to the absolute loyalty of Cava de' Tirreni to the Aragonese Crown during the conflict with the Angevins. These privileges contributed to keeping the city of La Cava independent from princes and barons, placing it directly under the aegis of the Crown. These privileges made the city one of the most prosperous and flourishing in the Kingdom of Naples, being exempt from paying taxes for trade throughout the entire territory of the Kingdom.
